About our Santalum shaving soap
This Santalum Shaving Soap is a traditional shaving soap with a wonderful sandalwood scent. This can invoke a sense of sensuality and sacredness. It has a deep, woody and spicy scent which has aphrodisiac properties allowing us to rejoice in our desire for love and sex.
Scent
First of all our sense of smell is linked in with memory. This is why different smells can invoke different reactions. Consequently they can transport us back in time linking us into the powerful memories of childhood and wonderful life experiences. Therefore, Santalum Shaving Soap contains a fragrant oil that creates a superb scent. This soap is a favourite amongst our customers and one of our most popular scents.
About our ingredients
Especially relevant is that we have sourced a sustainable ingredients including palm oil (stearic acid), coconut oil, shea butter, coco butter and avocado oil provide excellent moisturising qualities. As a result the butters have been chosen for their lathering qualities. In addition their moisturising qualities will leave your skin with a lovely post shave feel. The lanolin has been sourced ethically and cruelty free. It has not been tested on animals and is made in beautiful country NSW.
Directions
To get the best out of our soap it should be used with a shaving brush. Start by soaking your brush in water and then remove excess water by gently shaking the brush. Next load your brush from the tub until you have what resembles a paste on the tips of your brush hairs. You can then either lather up on your face or in bowl. You can add small amounts of water (drips off your fingers) at a time until you have a thick lather. The aim is a meringue like texture with peaks. It should have the consistency of yoghurt as this gives superb glide and protection as you shave.
Warning when to discontinue
If you have any form of reaction please stop using the soap. It is more likely that you are sensitive to the essential oils in the soap and not the soap itself.

I am new to wet shaving and I’ve recently bought this soap with a safety razor. I am converted and will never go back to the old wasteful unsustainable way of shaving with plastic razors. This soap is great and it makes a good lather. It is good value for money cause it feels like it is going to last till next year before I have to buy new soap.

This is a general review for multiple soaps and for WFTW in general.
I purchased 4 soaps from Alex as sample sizes in December 2019. The sample sizes are ideal if you are unsure about which soap to buy. I was impressed with Alex’s suggestion, and her helpfulness and willingness to accommodate my request. I purchased Santalum, Araminta, All Things Nice, and Pomelo (samples are not free).
LATHERING, PERFORMANCE :
I’ve been wet shaving with a DE razor for a few years now, so I’ve had time to learn about different techniques on all aspects of shaving. I’m a face latherer, and I’ve used the four soaps a few times now, and they all produce a good lather, which results in a smooth, irritation free shave. I’ve had best results with my Razorock synthetic brush. Good slickness and good protection. I have soaps from other artisan makers (Barrister and Mann, Australian Private Reserve), and the WFTW range compare very favourably with these brands. One issue that may be of interest is that the sample sizes come in a smaller tub (about 5cm diameter), which means that a little extra effort is required to generate the lather. Not in any way a fault of the soaps or Alex, but worth noting. Also, some of these soaps are offered with Vegan options, so extra brownie points for that.
SCENT
Personally, I place very little importance on scent, as soap is only on your face for a few minutes. That said, all these scents smell nice to my nose, not overly strong, and the names match the scent profile well enough. The Santalum smells very earthy IMO, which initially struck me as strange, but which I grew to like very much as time went on. It is the least “perfumey” of the 4.
PRICING
Given that these soaps are competing in the same space as other artisan makers, one has to expect that they will be offered at a particular price point. My view is the soaps are priced very reasonably and fairly when one considers the labour and materials that go into them, and when one considers the prices of similar quality soaps. Although I personally prefer the $25/120g over the $20/80g soaps on offer.
CONCLUSION
I am happy with all aspects of these soaps, and will be purchasing full size tubs in the future. Alex is to be commended for running a niche, artisan business the way it should be run. Very friendly, personalised and customised service, offering high quality products with ingredients sourced ethically, sustainably and organically (where possible), and not tested on animals. The packaging is recyclable, which is another plus. All this without the pretentious nonsense that one sometimes encounters with other niche businesses.
I would urge everyone reading this review to purchase at least one of her soaps. You won’t be disappointed.
